The month of May has obviously been very busy, because I have barely posted anything . . . and don't have many pictures on the camera, either! This time of year is always pretty hectic for me, trying to get the school year wound up.
This weekend, my mom came to town just to visit us. She came in on the Megabus on Friday night. We picked her up downtown, and then went for a late (especially for Kinley) dinner at IHOP. Kinley had eaten earlier, but she was out way past her bedtime.
Saturday, we just hung around the house and relaxed . . . something we all needed. On Sunday, Kathy had invited us over to swim and eat. Jason loves to cook on the grill, so they always have delicious things to try! This was Kinley's first time in the pool since last summer. We had some late cool weather this year, so the pool didn't warm up very early. Even yesterday, it was a little chilly. Kinley seemed to enjoy it, though.
Kinley also had her first corn on the cob experience. I have tried to give her corn before, and she wasn't too crazy about it. She seemed very interested in Gran's corn on the cob, though, and once she got the hang of it, she went to town!
On Monday, we just spent time hanging around the house again, until it was time to take my mom back downtown to catch the bus. It was a nice, relaxing weekend, and Kinley especially loved getting some time with her Gran!

Mother's Day 2013
This Mother's Day was very different for me than last year. Kinley was barely a month old, and that day, was particularly clingy, and I remember not even getting to shower until about 4:00 in the afternoon.
This year, we went out to La Vernia for Mother's Day. It didn't really start out as a big plan, but John and I decided that's what we were going to do. I talked to Todd to see what his plans were. I knew that last year, nobody was really able to make it out to see my mom, so I thought it would be nice if she got to see a few of her kids this year. I emailed the rest of my brothers and just let them know that both Todd and I were going to be out there, in case they wanted to make plans. Katie and Brent had already planned to go out to see both of their moms, Scott happened to have the day off, and Cory said he could be there, too.
On Friday after work, Todd and I drove out to La Vernia with Kinley and the dogs. John had to work until 2:00 on Saturday, so he was going to come out with Kassie after work. Sunday, we all went to church with my mom (Scott joined us a little late) and went back to the house to grill fajitas. Cory and John manned the grill, and I worked on things inside. Rachel came out with Emily to eat lunch. Everything was delicious, and we all had a good time hanging out, of course.
Kinley gave me a Starbuck's gift card, which will definitely come in handy these last few weeks of school! It was a really nice day, and I enjoyed being able to spend it with my family.

Kinley's First Astros Game
Tonight, we went to an Astros game. We haven't been in a couple of years, and this was Kinley's first time. A couple of months back, I got an email at work that they were going to be having Klein ISD night at the Astros. This year is our district's 75th anniversary, so they have been having a lot of special events. One of the middle school choirs was going to sing the National Anthem, and the school board president was throwing out the first pitch. When we decided to go, I asked Todd if he wanted to join us, and of course he said "yes."
Todd met us at the house, and brought Kinley some Astros attire. We loaded up and headed downtown. Since the Astros haven't been such a great team lately, parking was really cheap! We decided not to bring the stroller, because I thought it would just be one more hassle.
We got in the park and took the escalator up. The weather was beautiful, so the roof was open. Unfortunately, our seats were right in the sun. That night's giveaway was Astros umbrellas, but we hadn't gotten there quite early enough for that. So, we spotted some seats around the 3rd base side that were in the shade. It wasn't crowded at all, so we didn't feel too bad about moving. It was the same pricing as the tickets we bought, just in the shade. We sat in the front row of the upper deck, and had almost a completely empty row. We spread out a little bit so that Kinley could walk back and forth between us. She did a lot better than I expected her to. She never really fussed, and just amused herself either in our laps, or walking back and forth between us. She ate a hot dog, and made friends with all the people sitting around us.
The game was pretty much over by the end of the 3rd inning, but we stayed to watch anyway. We enjoyed good ball park food at least. We left after the 8th inning, because it was getting late, and I knew Kinley was getting tired. It was good to get out and do something different, and I'm sure we'll probably go back again sometime this summer.

Some New Foods
We have been trying lots of new foods lately, with a variety of reactions. As with any toddler, some things are a hit, and some things not so much. In some ways, I think Kinley takes after me, and there are some foods she doesn't seem to like, based on their texture. I have read that sometimes you have to keep introducing a food over and over for kids to accept them. Sometimes I can try that, but if she really doesn't like something, she won't even open her mouth for me again. We keep working on it. She's a pretty good eater, but vegetables are losing their ground to other things like fruit and carbs. This girl loves potatoes! Must be the Irish in her!!
We tried spaghetti the other night, which was a hit:
We ate at this chicken restaurant last night that has a buffet. John gave her some jello from the salad bar. Not quite a fan!
We will, of course, keep experimenting and trying new things. One good thing so far is that she likes meat, so we have an easy time getting protein in her!
