We took Kinley for her 2 week checkup this morning. She does NOT like getting undressed to get on the scale. These were the stats:
Height: 20 inches (1.5 inch gain since birth, 33%)
Weight: 6 pounds, 8 ounces (2 ounces shy of birth weight, 6%)
Head Circumference: 13.5 inches (no change since birth, 10%)
She's still a tiny little thing, but she is growing. She didn't quite make it back to her birth weight, but Dr. Flanagan didn't seem at all concerned. She had gained weight back since we were in to visit for the jaundice, and he said she looked fine. His concern was that her head circumference hadn't changed at all. I can tell just by looking that the shape of her head has changed since she was born, but he wants us to keep an eye on it. He doesn't think it will be a problem, but her little head does need to grow. He wants it to be up to 14 inches by the time she's a month old. He gave us a tape measure to bring home and keep track of it. Other than that, he said she looks perfect. We really like Dr. Flanagan a lot. He is very matter of fact, and talks in terms that you can understand. He's very friendly, and seems genuinely interested in how Kinley is doing. He interacts with her as much as you can with a newborn, and we feel very good about the care she is receiving.
We had to get the 2nd part of her newborn screen done, which meant another heel prick and squeezing for blood. She wasn't happy about it, but the nurse let me hold her up on my shoulder, which seems to be better than just laying her on the table like they did at the hospital. I still hate hearing her cry, because something is causing her pain, but I know it's something that's necessary. Unless something comes up, we won't be back until her 2 month checkup, which involves lots of shots. :-(
