Houston Zoo

Today was officially my last day of summer.  :-(  And John has Mondays off, so we decided to make the most of it.  Even though it was hot, we decided to get up early and take Kinley to the zoo.  One thing I like about the Houston zoo over San Antonio's is that they have "misting stations" all over the place, and it helps keep you cool.

We walked around and looked at animals when we first got there.

Ready to go!

Meercats - of course they were "buppies".

It was bath time for the elephants, so most of them weren't out yet.

After we went through the African area, we went into a gift shop and Kinley found this big "buppy" that she carried around and would not put down.

I was NOT going to pay gift shop prices to buy it, so we tried to discreetly get it from her and hide it.  Then the shop attendant told us it was 1/2 off.  So, of course I was suckered!!  We are now the proud owners of a stuffed elephant that is almost as big as our child.

We wanted to do the giraffe feeding, but had a little bit of time to kill, so we rode the carousel a couple of times.

Then, we got in line to do the giraffe feeding.  That was fun.  Kinley wasn't so fond of the LONG tongues, but she helped us feed the lettuce to them.

After that, we wandered over to the splash pad and changed Kinley into her swimsuit so she could play in the water for a little while.  It was a good cool-off for us, too!

After we got dried off, we went to the children's petting zoo area.  We just let Kinley wear her bathing suit, because we figured the sun would dry her off more.  She had fun petting and brushing the goats.

John was certain this goat must be named Jersey!

Llama!!!

After we left the petting zoo, we went to see the lions.

After this, we stopped and got a quick bite to eat.  Then, we went to see more monkeys and the sea lions.

At this point, it was pretty warm, and a lot of the animals weren't out anymore, so we decided to call it a day.  Kinley was asleep before we even got to the highway!  It was a fun family day, and a great end to our fantastic summer!!
